"Georgia!â Marvin yelled, slamming the door leading from the kitchen to the garage. "This shit just canât be true.â
"What, Marvin?â she asked as she rushed out of the bedroom. âWhat canât be true?â
He held up a copy of the Detroit Free Press and turned to the front page of the entertainment section.
âThatâs me,â she said excitedly. The photo shoot had been exciting, and the prints had turned out great, even though she had to force herself to smile.
âOh, Mom, you look good,â Chloe said. Georgia and Chloe had decided on a fresh start, and Georgia had been touched when Chloe asked if she could call her âMom.â
âOh, so she gets her own radio show and now sheâs your mom?â
âNo,â Chloe said, narrowing her eyes at Marvin. âI have been calling her thatâyou just havenât been around to hear it.â
âIs there something you want to tell me?â Marvin asked. â âIrate housewife determined to become a household name,â â he said, reading the headline.
She had no idea she would make the front page of the Sunday entertainment section.
â â âExpect billboards to be plastered throughout the city by New Yearâs,â Priscilla Pusey of 1FM says.â I thought you told me you werenât going to do it.â
âI donât remember telling you that, Marvin. In fact, just the other week, I told you I was going to do it. The night I went for the dinner meeting.â
âOh, that night? The night you left me with your kids and a TV dinner?â
âMy kids. Are they just my kids?â
He continued reading. â âSweet Georgia Brownâs morning show will be the best thing listeners have heard in a while.â â
âMarvin,â Georgia said, trying to stop him from reading the article.
âWait, thereâs more. âThis former housewife turned morning show host is best known as the ex-wife of Detroit radio host Marvelous Marvin, who spent many days on his number-one-rated morning show dishing out insults about his plus-size bombshell wife. Prospective listeners are already buzzing, hopeful Georgia Brown will use her show to do the same to him.â So youâre my ex-wife now? Is there something you forgot to tell me?â
âThat was a misprint. Iâll ask Priscilla for a correction to be printed.â
âNo one reads the corrections, Georgia. And besides, I doubt it was a misprint, because youâve been keeping me in the dark about a lot of things lately.â
âIâm on the air tomorrow morning. Six a.m. Be sure to check me out.â
âGeorgia, please donât go on-air and try to compete with me. Youâre out of your league. In fact, youâre not in any leagueânot when it comes to radio. That would be like me trying to win the U.S. Open against Tiger Woods. It canât happen.â
